Garbage truck passenger killed in accident on exit ramp

An employee of the City of Atlanta Public Works Department was killed in a garbage truck crash along Interstate 75. The workplace accident resulted in another employee suffering from critical injuries. According to statements from the Atlanta Police Department, it is unclear what led to the fatal accident. At the time of the report, police had launched an investigation to determine all of the contributing factors.

The accident happened while the 54-year-old victim was a passenger in a southbound garbage truck. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the vehicle crashed while driving on the Cleveland Avenue exit ramp. For reasons that are unknown, the driver lost control, which caused the vehicle to fishtail and roll into the median. Afterwards, the driver was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

So far, there have been no reports as to whether the deceased victim's family plans to file a workers' compensation claim. If the deceased man was the sole income earner in his family, family members may be able to seek compensation for lost wages. It may also be possible for the family members to seek compensation for the funeral expenses.

The driver may also file a workers' compensation claim for his medical care and any lost wages, depending on state law. A lawyer might advise him on Georgia law regarding workers' compensation for lost wages. If it is determined that a preventable mechanical failure led to the accident, it may also be possible to file a lawsuit for punitive damages.
