The ten deadliest jobs in America

Thousands of workers in Georgia and across the United States suffered from fatal work-related injuries each year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries reports that fatalities over the last five years have increased. Ten professions have been identified as the most dangerous, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Logging is said to be the riskiest of all, with 62 loggers losing their lives in the last year.

Fishing-related professions hold the number two spot, with 32 fishermen having fatal accidents in 2012. In third place is the airplane pilot profession, which took the lives of 71 pilots and flight engineers last year. Roofers and structural metal workers took fourth and fifth places on the list, while trash and recyclable collectors came in sixth. Electrical power line work and truck driving were the seventh and eight deadliest jobs. Farmers took ninth, and construction workers came in at number ten.

According to the reports, seemingly dangerous professions - like tractor driving and firefighting - are safe in comparison to others, such as being a car mechanic. Reports also revealed that ninety-two percent of all fatalities on the job were among men, which may be due to the fact that more men work in dangerous occupations. Women are not exempt from danger, however. More than twenty-nine percent of women who died while working were the victims of homicides.

Working in dangerous jobs may pay well, but it could be very costly. People who have suffered from job-related injuries or families who have lost loved ones due to work accidents may be eligible for workers' compensation to cover some of those costs. It may be beneficial for these individuals to discuss their situation with an attorney who is familiar with workers' compensation law.
